Havana Guide

The magic of the Wonder City

Savour the beats and atmosphere of the Cuban capital. Cosmopolitan and diverse, Havana offers you five centuries of history and facilities that become more modern every day. Its streets, squares and buildings are home to thousands of stories.

THE CITY, ITS PEOPLE AND THEIR STORIES

A drive in a classic car

The iconic old American cars in Havana are an attraction for everyone who visits the city. Preserved for years with love and care by their owners, today they are part of the unique experience in this fascinating city. Starting from the Parque Central, you can tour the different districts in the centre of Havana and the Vedado, two important focal points of city life and the rich variety of architectural styles. Further west is the more contemporary Miramar area, with its exclusive villas, beach areas, shopping malls, restaurants and bars. On the return to Old Havana, enjoy the fresh sea breeze on the seafront promenade, an amazing sight to behold at sunset.

Salsa lessons

Dance is intrinsic to Cuba and Havana. The city is always full of music and rhythm. That’s why salsa classes are usually so popular with visitors. Nothing beats having a few lessons and then visiting one of the popular nightlife spots where internationally famous orchestras put dancers through their paces.

Tropicana: a night under the stars

The most famous of Cuba’s night-time cabarets always puts on a spectacular show under the stars. Outstanding musicians and dancers delight the audience by showcasing critical aspects of Cuban culture. Exquisite dinners and a first-class cocktail bar accompany these unique evenings in the island’s capital.

The Cannon Blast Ceremony

Since the time when the city was protected by its walls, the famous canon fire at nine announced that the gates were closing. And even when Havana began to expand at the beginning of the 19th century, the canon-fire ceremony at La Cabaña Fortress continued to signal that night was falling over the city. A wonderful military ceremony accompanies the canon fire every day and is enjoyed by locals and visitors alike.

Havana by night

When the sun sets, Havana is lit up with the fabulous colours of its rich and varied culture. Film, theatre, music, dance or the simple pleasures of strolling through the city’s streets together form the canvas of an exceptional nightlife. Cabarets such as Tropicana, Habana Café at the Meliá Cohíba Hotel and Turquino at Tryp Habana Libre are ideal for combining dinner and entertainment with excellent shows and the best dance music performers in Cuba. Places like the Cuban Art Factory are perfect for discovering the latest contemporary trends in the island’s culture. And the clubs La Zorra y el Cuervo, El Gato Tuerto and Dos Gardenias allow you to spend an unforgettable evening listening to Cuban music genres that include jazz, filin and bolero.
