Meliá Internacional Varadero: Cuba's first sustainable hotel Sustainability and respect for the environment are priorities for the Meliá Hotels International’s global expansion scheme. That’s why the company has received with great joy the certification issued by the specialized consultancy BREEAM International, conferring to Meliá Internacional Varadero -owned by Gran Caribe- the category of Sustainable Construction.

Thus, the hotel becomes the first building of the AEI ARCOS-BBI real estate company to receive this international credential, which is based in the satisfactory assessment of indicators such as innovation management, non-polluting emissions, low energy and water expenditure, space use and ecology.

Meliá Internacional Varadero started operations in early 2019 and is today, one of the emblematic facilities of Meliá Hotels International Cuba in this famous destination. Its official inauguration was attended by the President of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel; the President and Founder of Meliá, Gabriel Escarrer; as well as important executives of the company and authorities of the Cuban government.
